What to wear to a maternity session in Florida heat
Fabrics that move in humidity, the colours that read best against tropical green, and why a second outfit is almost always worth it.
Maternity · South Florida
Maternity portraiture in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach — gowns that move like water, light that holds you, and a body of work your child will one day hold in their hands.
The Becoming
You will never look like this again — and that is exactly the point.
A maternity session is not a product shoot. It is the one afternoon in a loud, exhausting, miraculous year where somebody asks you to stand still and be looked at properly. I photograph that afternoon the way a painter would: slowly, with attention to the light on your shoulder and the way your hands find your belly without being told.
For fifteen years I have photographed South Florida families — the proposal, the wedding, and then this. Many of the women on this page I have photographed three times over. That is the part I am proudest of: not a single picture, but a record of a life unfolding.

Chapter One
The studio is where the body becomes sculpture. Tulle, silk and layered organza, a single soft source, and a background that disappears so there is nothing left to look at but you.

Chapter Two
South Florida is the set. Royal palm allées at Deering Estate, the stone arches of Vizcaya, a spring-fed lagoon that looks like somewhere far more expensive than a Tuesday morning in Miami.

Where we photograph
I photograph maternity sessions across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. These are the locations I return to, and why.
Italianate stone, coral arches and a shoreline that photographs like Europe. Best in the first two hours after opening. Permit and admission required.
The royal palm allée and the bay terrace. Long gowns and long trains were made for this one. Sunrise light is unbeatable here.
A spring-fed blue lagoon under a jungle canopy — the frame people assume was taken in Tulum. Limited sessions, and worth every one.
Old Florida verandas, sea grape and open sand. The easiest choice for families already in Broward, and lovely at sunrise.
Quiet water, bridges and raked stone. A calmer, more minimal look for mothers who want nothing tropical in the frame.
Climate controlled, fully stocked with gowns, and completely private. The right answer in August, in the rain, and in the third trimester.
Serving Miami, Miami Beach, Coral Gables, Hialeah, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Lauderhill, Plantation, Pembroke Pines, Weston, Boca Raton, Delray Beach, West Palm Beach and the surrounding communities. Travel beyond South Florida is quoted with your collection.
Chapter Three
Partners, big brothers, big sisters, grandmothers. The best maternity frames are rarely the posed ones — they are the half-second after somebody laughs.

Then one day, it is a memory.

And then
Most mothers book the newborn session before they leave the maternity one. If you would like both, say so when you enquire and I will quote them together — maternity, newborn, and the first birthday after that.

In motion
Fabric moves. Light changes. A still frame cannot carry everything, so a short film goes home with every session — the kind of thing you send to your mother at midnight.
The experience
Most mothers arrive a little nervous and leave wishing we had another hour. Here is the whole shape of it, so nothing is a surprise.
A short call about your due date, what you want this to feel like, and who is coming. I will tell you honestly which location suits your season and your trimester.
The studio gown collection is yours to use — tulle, lace, silk and fitted knits, in sizes that actually fit a third-trimester body. Bring your own pieces too if you love them.
One to three hours, one to two locations. I direct everything, so you never have to wonder what to do with your hands. We go slowly and we sit down often.
Every unedited frame within 24–72 hours, then your finished images in a private online gallery with a print release, ready for albums, canvases and the group chat.

Between 28 and 34 weeks is the sweet spot — the bump is unmistakable and you are usually still comfortable on your feet. If you are expecting multiples, come earlier, around 24 to 28 weeks. Sessions book two to four weeks out, so reach out as soon as you have a date in mind.
Investment
Every collection includes the gown wardrobe, full direction on the day, a private online gallery and a print release. A 30% retainer reserves your date.
Package A
$550
Package B
$875
Package C
$1,275
Studio fees and location fees (permits and admission at Vizcaya, Deering Estate and similar venues) are not included and are quoted with your collection. Custom and multi-session coverage — maternity through newborn through first birthday — is available on request.
The journal
Practical writing about planning a maternity session in South Florida — what to wear, when to book, and where the light is good.
Fabrics that move in humidity, the colours that read best against tropical green, and why a second outfit is almost always worth it.
Vizcaya, Deering Estate, the hidden lagoon and three beaches worth the early alarm — with permit costs and the hour to shoot each one.
Why 28 to 34 weeks is the window, how multiples change the maths, and what to do if you are reading this at 38 weeks.
Questions
Photo sessions book two to four weeks in advance. Because the ideal window is 28 to 34 weeks, most mothers reach out around 24 weeks so there is room to choose a date and a location.

South Florida being South Florida, this happens. We move to the studio, or we reschedule at no cost. You will never lose your retainer to weather.
Yes. Many families book maternity and newborn together, and then come back for the first birthday. If you would like both, say so when you enquire and I will quote them as one.
